Here are the Football Stories College Players of the Week for week two of the 2023 season.
Offensive Player of the Week – Malachi Langley, wide receiver, Lincoln University. Langley, a sophomore out of Chester High School, is off to a great start in 2023. Saturday, in the Lions 48-32 win over Post University, he had seven receptions for 197 yards and three touchdowns. In two games, he has 12 catches for 332 yards and five touchdowns.
“[Malachi’s] a speedster,” said Lincoln head coach Frank Turner. “He’s going to be a matchup situation that’s going to be good for us.”
Defensive Player of the Week – Shane Hartzell, linebacker, Villanova University. In a 42-19 win over Colgate, the Wildcats' defense held the Raiders to 33 yards rushing while Hartzell, Villanova’s top returning tackler from last season, tied for the team-high with eight total stops. In addition, the sophomore who is a Pennridge High School graduate, had one-and-a-half sacks for 12 yards in losses and he hurried the quarterback twice. Through two games, Hartzell leads the Wildcats in tackles and is tied for the team lead in sacks.
