There’s not much to review after week one of the college football season for teams in the Philadelphia region as only the Division One teams played. The Division II and D3 teams kick off this week.

Delaware State (1-1) despite some travel troubles made it to Hawaii for a week zero game, the Hornets fell to the Rainbow Warriors 35-14, but they bounced back edging Sacred Heart 17-15 on the road. After all the travel (and a win to match last season’s total), they’ve earned a week off. The Hornets home opener is with Wagner on September 14.

RYAN O'CONNOR HAD FOUR TOUCHDOWN PASSES

Keeping it in the First State, Delaware rolled to a season-opening 48-17 win over Bryant. In the win, quarterback Ryan O’Connor threw for four touchdowns to earn the Football Stories Offensive Player of the Week. Like their neighbors in Dover, the Blue Hens (1-0) will take the week off and resume play on September 14th, with a trip to North Carolina A&T.

In a rematch from last year’s FCS Playoffs, No. 6 Villanova won again, topping 23rd-ranked Youngstown State 24-17. Linebacker Richie Kimmel had a game-sealing interception to go with a fumble recovery and career-high 10 tackles, to earn the Football Stories Defensive Player of the Week. He was the CAA Defensive Player of the Week as well. This week, the ‘Cats (1-0) now ranked fifth in the nation travel to Colgate (0-1).

RICHIE KIMMEL HAD AN INTERCEPTION AND FUMBLE RECOVERY IN THE WILDCATS WIN

Temple opened on the road at Oklahoma and was roughed up by the No. 16 Sooners 51-3. The Owls (0-1) stay on the road with a trip to Annapolis to face Navy (1-0).

The Pat Ruley era begins at Rowan on Thursday night as the Profs visit Stevenson.

Also, Lincoln University is in action on Thursday night as they play at Clarion University.

Under the Friday night lights, Ursinus hosts Alvernia.

On Saturday afternoon, Eastern will debut its home field at Valley Forge Military Academy with a visit from TCNJ, one of four area schools with a new head coach.

Widener opens on the road Saturday, at Lycoming. While their rival Delaware Valley – and new head coach Mike Isgro – play at Hampden-Sydney College.

Duke Greco takes over for the retired Bill Zwaan at West Chester University. His first game at the helm is at home with Bentley University.
